The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Freeze Warning for our area from midnight tonight to 10 AM Monday. Many locations in the Northern Mountains of North Carolina and the Mountain Empire region of southwest Virginia will experience low temperatures ranging from 28 to 32 degrees. Chilly high pressure will build into the region today and persist through Monday. A weak cold front will push across the area on Tuesday followed by another period of high pressure that will control the weather for much of the remainder of the work week.

As of 9:00 AM this morning, 544 Appalachian Power customers were without power in Franklin County, 113 in Henry County and 39 in Patrick County all due to last night’s high winds.
