James H. Rucker, 81, of Martinsville, Va., lived a full and loving life. He was a kind and compassionate soul that loved the outdoors. He went to live with his Heavenly Father on Monday, October 29, 2018, at Sovah Health Martinsville. He was born on February 19, 1937, in Patrick County, VA. to the late Harold B. Rucker and Naomi Scales Rucker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Howard Rucker, Boyd Rucker, and Mildred Rucker Gears.
James retired from Fieldcrest Cannon after 27 years and a bout of illness. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board.
He is survived by his wife, Novella Hairston Rucker of the residence; sons, Roderick Ricky Rucker of Fieldale, Va., and Wayne Rucker of Martinsville, Va..; daughters, Lori Rucker of Danville, Va., and Collette Rucker Mahaffey (Keith) of Katy, Texas; a sister, Catherine Spencer (William) of Martinsville, Va.; two brothers, Kenneth Rucker (Linda) and Dillion Rucker Sr,. both of Fieldale, Va. James is also survived by six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at C.R.V Hairston Memorial Chapel with the Elder Alan Preston officiating. Burial will follow the service at Carver Memorial Gardens.
