Mother Mary Alice (Mae) Hairston, 101, of Fieldale, departed this life on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at the Martinsville Health and Rehab. Mae was a native and lifelong resident of Henry County, Martinsville, Virginia. She was born on September 23, 1917, to the late Thomas Green Parker and the late Lucy Estelle Hairston Parker. She was married to the late Rev. Samuel Hairston. She worked at Stanley Furniture and with her husband in the dry cleaning business. She was a faithful member of St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was Mother of the Church, worked with the Home Missions and was the longtime treasurer for the Sunday School. She loved her church and enjoyed shopping and going out to eat. She drove herself and others until she voluntary gave up driving (well into her nineties). Other than her husband she was also preceded in death by ten siblings, Edward, Daniel, David, Robert (Bob), Jessie, James, Martha, Beatrice, Helen, and Lucy.
Her survivors include Barbara Harris her niece who was like her daughter and loved and cared for her when her health failed along with many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
We all loved her and will surely miss her but God loved her best and gently took her in His arms and carried her home to be with Him.
