The Virginia Department of Transportation crews and contractors have been responding to downed trees and icy road conditions throughout the day today. Crews will continue to monitor and address road conditions this evening and overnight as dropping temperatures create the potential for re-freezing on roadways and additional downed trees due to ice.

Drivers should continue to use caution on roadways throughout the region as icy patches, slushy roadways and isolated slick spots continue to be reported, especially on roads in the New River Valley and in the higher elevations such as Bent Mountain in the Roanoke area. Bridges and overpasses, including those on the interstates, may also become icy before other areas.

As of 6 PM this evening we have received word that Martinsville City Schools and Henry County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay and Patrick County Schools will be closed for Friday, November 16, 2018. Check here for the latest weather-related announcements.
