R.J. Scott, Sr., 81, of Bassett, Va., passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at his home. He was born in Mount Airy, N.C. on May 4, 1937, to the late Ervin J. Scott and the late Etta Gates Scott. In addition to his parents, R.J. was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Scott; sister, Elizabeth Scott; and a grandson, Raymond Scott Brown.

R.J. was a member of Fairway Baptist Church. He retired from VDOT after 32 years of service.

R.J. is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Crystal Marie Scott; daughter, Pamela Gail Brown and husband, David France of Collinsville, Va.; sons, Randall Scott and RJ Scott, Jr. both of Bassett; grandchildren, Johnny Brown and wife, Julie of Patrick Springs, Va., Jason Brown and girlfriend, Lori Compton of Axton, Va. and Amber Scott and fiancé, Jasper Cox of Greensboro, N.C.; great-granddaughter, Sadie Nicole Brown of Axton; brothers, Russell Scott and wife, Janice of Trinity, N.C., Ronnie Scott and wife, Deborah of Shallotte, N.C. and Rickey Scott and wife, Valerie of Bassett; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in the Basset Funeral Service Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018, in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Russell Scott and Pastor Johnny Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Ross Harbour United Methodist Church Cemetery.
