35-year-old Alex McNabb, a part-time EMT in Patrick County, has been placed on unpaid leave after claiming to take “immense satisfaction” as he “terrorized” a black boy with a needle, and compared black patients to gorillas on a white supremacist podcast he co-hosts.
Dr. Lock Boyce, chairman of the Patrick County board of supervisors, has said publicly that McNabb needs to be removed from patient care, but McNabb is employed by the JEB Stuart Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Squad has a contract with the County to provide patient care services. The Squad’s attorney has advised against firing McNabb fearing a wrongful termination suit.
The Virginia Department of Health is investigating, meanwhile, Boyce says he plans to call for McNabb to be fired, and if not, stop doing business with the JEB Stuart Rescue Squad.
