On January 1, 2019, at 1:20 AM, the Martinsville Police Department
responded to 313 Clift Street, in reference to shots being fired. Arriving officers found Rasheem Oshea Hairston deceased at the scene.

Hairston was 24 years old and was a resident of Eden, North Carolina.

After officers arrived on Clift Street, they were called to the hospital for a second person with gunshot wounds. Devontae Lee Massey had also been shot at the same incident on Clift Street. Mr. Massey’s wounds were non-life threatening.

Arrest warrants have been obtained for Devontae Lee Massey, 23 of Martinsville. Massey is charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in the city.
