Jack William Hollar, 86, of Ridgeway, Va., formally from Dudley Shoals, N.C., passed away while in hospice care Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Martinsville, Va.
Mr. Hollar was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Martinsville, Va. He graduated from Hildebran High School in 1952 and later lived in the town of Ridgeway, Va., where he worked for American Furniture as a Department Manager until his retirement. He was an amazing upholsterer. He loved building things in his workroom. He was always up for a “vision” from one of his kids. We have wonderful memories of him down in that workshop making all kinds of cabinets, elaborate cat boxes, recovering chairs and any projects the kids and grandkids could think off.
Born July 15, 1932 in Dudley Shoals, N.C., he was an only child. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin McDowell Hollar and Annie Lou Mathis Hollar; and his loving wife Annie Sue Oxford Hollar, who just passed away in December 2018. Those left to cherish his memories include his four children, Mike Hollar and wife, Kathy, Jeff Hollar and wife, Lisa, Karen (Hollar) Johnson and husband, Bob, and Debbie (Hollar) Freitag and husband, Scott, as well as his eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to Mountain Valley Hospice, 730 E. Church Street, Martinsville, Va. 24112. They took such amazing care of both Mom and Dad at the end.
The family is having a graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Sunset Hills Cemetery, 5171 Sherrill Drive, in Granite Falls, N.C. with Minister David Deisher officiating.
Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory of Martinsville, Va. is serving the Hollar family.
