Annie Cosby Pettie, 84 of Martinsville, Va., departed this life on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at her residence. She was born in Martinsville, Va., the daughter of the late William Mckinley Cosby and the late Sarah Elizabeth Hairston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Rebecca Pettie Bowles; siblings, Leon Cosby, Evelyn Walton, and Cecil Smith; and her son-in-law, Jack Graves.

Annie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Albert “Pete” Pettie of the home; one daughter, Debra P. Graves, of Eden, N.C.; one brother, William Cosby, Jr. of Petersburg, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Martin of Belleville, Ill. and Carolyn Winston of Cleveland, Ohio; grandson, Brian (Marian) Strand of Greensboro, N.C.; three granddaughters, Jacqueline Strand of Greensboro, N.C., Lauren (Wayman) Madden of Burlington, N.C., and Jennifer Bowles of Martinsville, Va.; two great- grandsons, Bryson and Braylon Strand of Greensboro, N.C.; great- granddaughter, Peyton Madden of Burlington, N.C.; best friend, Bessie Price of Marlton, N.J.; and, caregiver, Martha Lovell of Rocky Mount, Va.

She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, where she served as an Elder, a member of the Culinary Committee, past Moderator of the Woman’s Association, served on Session, was an active Sunday School and Bible study participant, supported the church library, and donated many books to the library. Also, she volunteered with the Habitat for Humanity, CONTACT (crisis) line, and worked the polls for elections.

Annie worked in the office of Dr. G. Sylvester Price, Jr. for several years before obtaining employment with DuPont Company where she retired in 1985.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the CRV Hairston Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. William C. Randolph, Eulogist. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service and all other times at the home 1656 Roundabout Road, Martinsville.

Burial will be held at Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville, Va.
