A stationary front across the area this morning is expected to lift north as a warm front this afternoon. Meanwhile, a strong cold front will will move through the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, crossing the central Appalachians tonight, then east across the Piedmont and Tidewater areas of Virginia and North Carolina on Friday. The front will be preceded by very warm temperatures today, followed by much colder air behind the front for the weekend. Friday will be the change-up day with warm temperatures early, generally falling throughout the day. The weekend looks seasonably cold, but dry, then transition back to unsettled conditions next week as a series of frontal boundaries and low pressure systems impact the region.
