Unemployment rates in Martinsville and Henry County are the lowest they’ve been in 20 years. As of December 2018, Martinsville’s unemployment rate sits at 4.1% and Henry County’s 3.3%. The area’s workforce was hit hard during the recession as major companies began to layoff employees. At it’s worst, in 2010 the unemployment rate in the county hit 16% and in 2009 the city it reached 20%.
