The Jeb Stuart Rescue Squad’s board of directors voted 9 to 0 on Sunday to terminate Alex McNabb after racist comments came to light from the part-time medic who compared black patients to gorillas.
McNabb had been on unpaid leave while the Virginia Department of Health investigated the allegations. McNabb was cleared of violating EMS regulations, but the rescue squad decided the community had lost trust in the department and it was necessary to terminate McNabb’s employment in order to restore that trust.
Patrick County Board of Supervisors Chairman, Dr. Lock Boyce, had threatened to stop funding the rescue squad if McNabb was allowed to stay.
