Charlie J. Phillips, 87, of Martinsville, VA passed away Friday, March 15, 2019. He was born May 15, 1931 in Pulaski County, VA to the late Charlie Ross Phillips and Ocie Hollandsworth Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers.
Mr. Phillips served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Mercy Crossing since 1949, where he was a Sunday School Superintendent for 18 years. He was a part of the nursing home ministry at Blue Ridge Rehab for 19 years and the Prison Ministry for 13 years. Charlie loved God, his family, and his church. He enjoyed eating breakfast every Monday with his friends at Hardee’s.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann Phillips of the home; siblings, Ralph (Mae) Phillips of Patrick Springs, James C. (Geneva) Phillips of Radford, Rev. Kirby Phillips of Martinsville, Ruby McDaniel of Radford, and Tinesta (Jay) Nester of Dugspur; children, Barry (Laura) Phillips, Greg (Kaye) Phillips, Pam (Rickey) Hopkins, and LeAnne (Larry, Jr.) Bray; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Mercy Crossing with Ministers Tim Nuckles, Jimmy Wood, and Barry Phillips officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019.
