Set for its 10th annual running along the streets and trails in and around Uptown Martinsville, the Martinsville Half Marathon & 5K is being held this morning. The start and finish are at the Martinsville YMCA on Starling Avenue. Runners make their way around the block and then into the city’s uptown area and then it’s off on the trails, then back on the streets for a full half-marathon. Runners will need to complete the race within 3 hours and 3 minutes.
Proceeds from the race go to benefit the Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA’s Invest in Youth Fund, which aids local kids and teens who wish to take part in the YMCA programs but don’t have the money to pay the fees.
In 2017, 480 runners and walkers crossed the finish line in both races combined, with 92 finishers in the half marathon. That number grew to 117 last year.
