The Department of Public Safety for Henry County says more people are using their services and less people are volunteering to help. They say they need to hire 4 new members right away, but in reality, it would take 16 new members to meet the increased demand. The proposed budget, released earlier this week, has no increases in taxes or fees. Officials say, in order to hire the number of people Public Safety says they need, a tax hike would be required. The Henry County School Board is asking for over half-a-million more than last year from the Henry County Board of Supervisors. The proposed budget includes 80 percent of what they asked and a 3 percent raise for all employees. A work session has been set for Thursday and a public hearing will be held Monday at 7pm.
