The National Weather Service confirms that 18 tornadoes touched down in Virginia and North Carolina during the severe storms on Friday, including one that caused widespread damage to homes and property in Franklin County. They have classified the Franklin County tornado as an EF3 with wind speeds of 159 mph. The tornado touched down Friday morning at 10:25 just to the north of Oak Level in Franklin County. It moved northeast, destroying ten buildings. There were no reports of injuries. An EF1 tornado was also confirmed in Bedford County, with wind speeds up to 93 mph.
