The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a breaking and entering and robbery that occurred at 34 Lowland Dr., Martinsville, VA.
On May 2, 2019, at approximately 11:23 pm, an unknown male suspect entered the residence located at 34 Lowland Dr. He was armed with an assault-style rifle. Once inside, the suspect demanded the victim to give him drugs, money, and keys to a vehicle. While inside of the residence the suspect fired one shot from his weapon. After taking an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency and keys to the victim’s vehicle, the suspect exited the residence and left the area in the victim’s vehicle.
A short time later the stolen vehicle was involved in a single vehicle crash in the 2100 block Preston Rd. At approximately 9:07 am the suspect was found walking in the 1600 block of Preston Rd. where he was taken into custody by deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office without incident.
Robert William Mathews, 51, of 10 Halifax Dr., Collinsville, Virginia is the individual identified as the suspect from the Breaking & Entering / Robbery at 34 Lowland Dr., Martinsville, VA. The following warrants were served on Mathews:
• Break & enter at night
• Larceny of a motor vehicle
• Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
• Possess firearm by a convicted felon
• Shooting in an occupied dwelling
Mathews is currently being held in the Henry County Jail with no bond.
