This month, over twenty different student-artists have their best works on display in Patrick Henry Community College’s Walker Gallery for the 24th Annual Student Art Show. The show was juried by Clara Heaton a Roanoke-based professional artist. Heaton selected the top submissions to win this year’s Art Show Awards.

The awards, which are funded by the PHCC Foundation, were presented to the winners by the PHCC Foundation Executive Director, Tiffani Underwood. The awards range in value from $25 to $150. The Purchase Prize, which is an award of $150, is unique. The Foundation keeps the work that receives the purchase prize to add it to the Foundation’s growing student-art collection and to display it on campus.

This year, the Student Art Show award winners are:

Honorable Mentions: Reflections by Morgan Wood of Bassett. Magic Scene by Jordan Menefee from Martinsville. Still Life by Marizol Rivas from Axton. Unsure by Charles Edwards from Fieldale.

Awards of Excellence: Those Dainty Daffodillies by John Christian from Martinsville. White Forms by Hannah Martin from Stuart. Subsiding Waters by Hannah Mason from Martinsville.

Best-In-Show: In Time of Peril by Kenny Nguyen from Ridgeway.

Purchase Prize: Magnolia Pod by Jamir Cabrera from Martinsville.

The Student Art Show will remain on display in the Walker Fine Art Center at PHCC through May 15. The show features over 30 pieces submitted by more than 20 student-artists from across the region.
