Daniel Gardner Tyler, Sr., 86, of Collinsville, VA passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019, at his home. He was born October 19, 1932, in Clifton Forge, VA to the late Roy C. Tyler, Sr. and Katherine Woodward Tyler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Tyler, Jr., and sisters, Eleanor Reyns and Ann Tyler. Mr. Tyler was a member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army. Mr. Tyler earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech and worked in transportation for Henry County Public Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Putnam Tyler of the home; daughters, Kim Joyce (Kenny) of Collinsville, VA and Margaret Winkler (Bill) of Roanoke, VA; and son, Danny Tyler (Sherrie) of Roanoke, VA. Also, surviving are grandchildren, Jordan Johnson (Brandon), Jake Joyce, Trey Tyler, and Tatum Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Aliyah and Jakobe Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Smith Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Kameron Wilds officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon and other times at the home, 145 Homestead Court, Collinsville, VA 24078.
