According to a release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, this past Sunday morning deputies were investigating a threatening to burn property case at 1088 Jarrett Drive in Bassett where Charles Jonathan Belcher was a suspect. They found Belcher at nearby 1121 Jarrett Drive sitting in a vehicle in the driveway. Belcher refused to get out of the vehicle so he could be placed under arrest and instead, tried to get away. In the process he struck deputies T.W. Compton and C.P. Waddell, and a patrol car before wrecking about a half-mile down the road. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and then arrested. The deputy’s injuries did not require treatment. Belcher is in the Henry County Jail without bond.
