A team of interns will join leaders in the Martinsville/Henry County Chapter of Virginia Organizing to host an Environmental Justice Week of Action from July 29 to Aug. 2 in Martinsville and Henry County. Virginia Organizing will conduct a door-to-door canvass of several communities to learn more about high utility bills and invite residents to get involved in the chapter’s local campaign. The Week of Action culminates in a Community Meeting on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. at New College Institute. The group contends the region has older homes that lack proper insulation and use “dirty energy” causing residents of Martinsville and Henry County to lose money every time a bill comes due. Virginia Organizing will be canvassing daily Monday through Thursday.
