U.S. Senator Mark Warner is in the region for the next couple of days. He will host a roundtable with local agricultural producers and farmers at 3 p.m. in Chatham to discuss issues affecting Virginia’s producers. China announced Friday that it will instate additional retaliatory tariffs starting September 1 in response to President Trump’s plans to impose additional levies on Chinese goods. Warner has been critical of the president’s plan, saying it hurts farmers and small businesses. Warner will hold an informal meet-and-greet with local young professionals at Ballad Brewing Company at 6:00 PM in Danville. Tomorrow, at 9:45 AM Warner will speak to leaders from local businesses and the Martinsville-Henry Chamber of Commerce at the New College Institute on Fayette Street in Martinsville.
