Henry County officials are asking folks to please stay away from a new segment of the Dick & Willie Trail for a few more weeks so the paving can take place. Paving is scheduled to begin Monday for a new segment known as 6B, a 2.5-mile stretch to link the new Spruce Street trailhead to the Smith River Sports Complex. Paving is expected to take a few weeks and County officials are hoping for an opening this fall.
The Martinsville City Council is having a neighborhood tour and meeting Monday night for the Uptown/Druid Hills area. Participants will gather at 5:30 p.m. at the rear entrance of the Martinsville Municipal Building for the approximately a tour of the neighborhoods. They then will gather at 7:30 at the lecture hall of the New College Institute at 191 Fayette St. to discuss issues, including ordinances and inspections involving property. This session is scheduled for about an hour.
Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Saturday morning. The incident occurred on Route 220, immediately north of South Side Drive in Franklin County. A 2006 Scion TC was heading south on Route 220, when it ran off the left side of the road and overturned several times. David Lindsey, 20, of Floyd was identified as the driver. Police say Lindsey died at the scene. The male passenger was transported by a family member to a Hospital.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office has located a fugitive sought for abduction and felonious assault. 40-year-old Roger Dale Pruitt, Jr. was arrested on multiple charges including assault on a female, strangulation and second-degree kidnapping. Pruitt was located in the Reidsville area and was taken into custody without incident after a brief search. Pruitt is being held in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under a $5000 secure bond.
