On September 27, 2019 at 9:49pm the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Communications Center received a call in reference to a fire cracker that had exploded in an individual’s face at 124 Konya Dr., Martinsville, Virginia. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Public Safety and Ridgeway Rescue responded to the scene. The victim, James Marvin Hundley, was assessed by EMS workers and subsequently air lifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
It was determined through the course of the investigation the device that exploded was not a firecracker but was found to be a small improvised explosive device. It was also determined that he victim of the explosion and a second individual manufactured and possessed the improvised explosive device prior to detonation.
Virginia State Police bomb technicians were consulted during the preliminary investigation.
James Marvin Hundley, 37, of 190 Konya Dr., Martinsville, VA was charged with 2 felonies, Possess Materials to Manufacture Explosive Device and Posses Explosive Device. Hundley was held in the Roanoke City Jail with a $1,500 secured bond.
Jonathan Wayne Hubbard, 52, of 124 Konya Dr., Martinsville, VA was charged with 2 felonies, Possess Materials to Manufacture Explosive Device and Posses Explosive Device. Hubbard is currently being held in the Martinsville City Jail with no bond.
