The vaping crisis hit close to home for many earlier this week when health officials announced Virginia’s first vaping death. As the vaping crisis grows, many want to know why the deaths are happening and, more importantly, what’s being done to prevent them. Public health organizations like the American Heart and Lung Associations, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Tobacco21.org, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, and Tobacco-Free Alliance of Virginia are pushing Governor Ralph Northam to do more. They’re urging him to take immediate action to restrict the sale of all flavored tobacco products, as well as put a $1.80 tax on every tobacco product in stock. The nationwide total of confirmed deaths related to lung disease associated with vaping is 17.
