The Henry County Sheriff’s Office says people in Henry County should be on the lookout for a new type of scam that has been occurring in the area. A caller will tell you that you have missed jury duty and law enforcement is en route to arrest you, or you can pay the fine and avoid being arrested. The scammers are using the address and telephone number of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, but those being called are told not to come to the Sheriff’s Office to pay the fine due to the bottom floor of the building being flooded. The scammers will direct you to pay through other means such as a gift card, or Green Dot MoneyPak cards. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office does not collect fines for the courts. If you receive a call and aren’t sure if it is legitimate, contact police, the sheriff’s office or any other law enforcement agency for advice.
