A Richmond man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Halifax County Sunday. State Police say 21-year-old Terrence Elijah Tyler died after losing control of his car in the 4100 block of Philpott Road. State troopers responded to a call just before 4 a.m. Sunday.
A lockdown on the main campus of Averett University was lifted early Sunday morning after police determined there was no threat. The school was placed under lockdown after Campus Safety and Security received a report from a campus app of a person on the grounds with a firearm. The person responsible for the rumor has been identified but no criminal charges will be filed.
George’s Prepared Foods, based in Caryville, Tennessee, is recalling more than 6,000 pounds of ready-to-eat pork and sausage patty products over a Salmonella risk. The problem was discovered when the firm notified the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s food safety and inspection service that the firm’s third-party cold storage facility had inadvertently shipped the ready-to-eat products to stores. The meat was sold at Walmart. If you have any of the recalled sausages you should discard or return them.
Coach’s Neighborhood Grill, a North Carolina-based restaurant chain, is set to open its doors this week. The restaurant, at 293 W. Commonwealth Blvd., in Martinsville, is in its finishing stages of construction in the former Texas Steakhouse location.
