Eden man arrested in double homicide

Rockingham County Sheriff’s Investigators have charged Darius Tremayne Brooks, 31, of 209 Cedar St. Eden, N.C. with two counts of First Degree Murder, one count of Attempted Murder, Shooting Into an Occupied Dwelling, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

These charges are in connection to the double homicide and shooting that occurred on Dan River Church Road in Eden on Sunday, June 27, 2021

Brooks was already being held in the Rockingham County Detention Facility on a number of other charges, he was given a No bond – hold on the new charges relating to the homicides/shooting on June 27th. This investigation is still ongoing.

Last night (Sunday, June 27th) shortly before 10 p.m., Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to 160 Dan River Church Rd. Eden, N.C. in response to three (3) gunshot victims at that location. Upon their arrival, Deputies discovered three (3) individuals on the porch area of the home suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Two (2) of those individuals were deceased, the third was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. That individual is listed in critical condition. The names of the victims are not being released at this time pending notification of the next of kin.

Rockingham County Sheriff’s Investigators believe the three (3) victims were on the porch of the residence around 9:50 p.m. when suspect(s) began firing from the woodline adjacent to the house. At this point in the investigation, this is not believed to have been a random act.
