Pittsylvania County death ruled as murder

A man found dead in a Gretna home last Friday was murdered.

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that the death — initially called “suspicious” — is now being carried as a homicide.

The victim, 51-year-old Charles Van Hooker, was shot to death. He was found dead after investigators were called to a home on Boxwood Road February 11.

The Medical Examiner has ruled Hooker’s death a homicide, and investigators are asking anyone with information to call (434) 432-7715.

There was no word Tuesday on any possible suspects in the investigation.
