A former Henry County deputy accused of domestic assault has been granted bond.

Judge Joan Ziglar set bail for Rashaun Gravely at $50,000 in a Martinsville courtroom on Thursday. Some of his bond conditions include avoiding all contact with the victim, and he can’t leave the state unless it’s for a court appearance in North Carolina.

On Saturday, police arrested Gravely on suspicion of domestic assault in North Carolina. During that investigation, the victim told police a similar incident happened in Martinsville in June of last year. Gravely returned to Virginia on Tuesday and turned himself in.

According to arrest records, his on-again and off-again girlfriend who is a deputy accused him of choking her during a fight at a birthday party.

Gravely was charged with strangulation.
