Candidates file for City Council; Cao wins Primary

Five candidates have filed for three seats on Martinsville City Council this November. The names at deadline Tuesday night were Rayshaun Gravely, LaNita Herlem, Kathy Lawson, Julian Mei, and John Wilson.

Statewide, Hung Cao won a Republican Primary on Tuesday for United States Senate with 62% of the vote. He will face incumbent Tim Kaine (D) in the November election. Cao received 51% of the votes in Martinsville, 64% in Henry County, and 63% in Patrick County.

John McGuire holds about a 300 vote lead over incumbent Bob Good in the Republican 5th Congressional District Primary race. Early votes still have to be counted. The winner will face Gloria Witt who won the Democratic nomination with 57% of the vote beating Gary Terry and Paul Riley.
