What have you seen lately?

All of my TV consumption lately has been sports, baseball playoffs mostly. With the World Series over I went back to "Designated Survivor" with Kiefer Sutherland. I think I watched the first episode of this a year ago and then got started on something else and never went back to it. Now I'm 4 episodes in. ABC carried it for two seasons and canceled. Netflix picked it up and will release season 3 sometime next year. I haven't found this show to be award-worthy by any stretch, but it is an interesting take on the terrorist age we live in. Plus, the show also stars Maggie Q "Nikita" - what can I say! 8)

They sure can end a show on a cliff-hanger. Hard to turn it off!

Thanks for the info. I didn't know Netflix had picked it up. It's one of my favorites.

The main character of The Walking Dead for the last nine years was blown up in last night's episode. The hype over the last few weeks was all about the last episodes of Rich Grimes. He was seriously injured, but he did not die. He was picked up by a helicopter that one of the characters was in communication with as of the last two shows. The series producer tells us that they will be making several Rick Grimes movies for AMC and expanding The Walking Dead universe with additional stories separate from the main series that explore survivors in other parts of the world.

I am not a zombie fan. Horror as such leaves me indifferent. This show has been fascinating because it depicts the behavior of people who operate in a basic survival environment--what Thomas Hobbes would call "a state of nature" in which the main characters grow fully developed personalities over time. There are many important figures who have been lost during the nine years and Rick Grimes is the most significant, but there are other major characters who can carry the series forward. It will be interesting to watch how they respond and interact after such a loss.

I hate to say it, but when I found out Designated Survivor had been canceled, I stopped watching it. I figured there was no point. I'm always going to feel Keifer is Jack Bauer.
I want to go back to the 1980's where shoulder pads, porn staches, and mullets ruled the world!

Maybe this has been talked about on a prior version of our forum here. If so, I missed it. It's called "War Machine" and it's a Netflix original that came out last year and features Brad Pitt who I barely noticed given the character he was playing. This movie is funny in places, extremely sad in others, and slow all the way through. The baseline for the movie is that we have a whacked out military brass with no realm of reality and if not for a liberal Commander-In-Chief with no intention of working with them gets his way by tricking and ignoring them. Which, may be as accurate as anything else I've heard. Wouldn't want to see this twice, but I'm glad I watched it once.

Watched "Angela's Ashes" last night. It's a 1999 Irish drama film based on the memoir of the same name by Frank McCourt and stars Emily Watson and Robert Carlyle. Frank McCourt is played by Joe Breen, Ciaran Owens, and Michael Legge through his various stages of growing up.

This is a story about Frank McCourt and his childhood after his family is forced to move back to Ireland from the United States (never heard of that happening) because of financial difficulties and his father's alcoholism. The setting is in Limerick, Ireland during the 1930s and 1940s.

Magnificently done. I highly recommend this one.

I watched "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" last night for the first time. I have no idea how one of the greatest movies ever made could have been around for 43 of my 58 years and I've never seen it before now.

Last night I watched "The Forgiven." Forest Whitaker plays Desmond Tutu in this movie. I've been a Whitaker fan since "Platoon" and will never forget him playing the part of Idi Amin in "The Last King of Scotland."
