Gonzaga is taking it to Duke in the Maui championship game, maintaining a double digit lead for much of the game. Waiting for a Duke comeback but it isn't there. What happened to the fabled Duke defense? It died with one-and-done apparently. Gonzaga is shooting the lights out and Duke has a poor half court offense. Without constant fast breaks they look clumsy on offense--way too much individual play it seems to me. Seven minutes left and Duke has cut it to 9 but gave up an offensive rebound and two completed free throws.

At 5:38 Duke has an offensive rebound and now trails only by 6. Duke fumbles another rebound out of bounds. Finally a takeaway and a breakaway by Barrett. It's 4 points. but a foul against Gonzaga and Duke down by 6 at 4:35. An offensive rebound and put back and its a 4 point game. Duke on a takeaway and a scoring drive by R.J. Barrett with a foul. Suddenly, its a 2 point game with Duke on the line for a free throw. Missed. Gonzaga gets a score and a free throw. It's a 5 point lead. Jones with a floater for Duke. 86-83 at 3:13. Gonzaga misses. DuKe against a 2-3 zone again and Jones makes another floater. 86-85.  Zags another offensive rebound and Duke commits another foul and the Zags make one of 2 free throws. It's a 2 point game.  Williamson ties it with another drive to the basket. Zags at 1:25. Hachimura scores again. Zags with a 2 point lead at 1 minute. Duke takes it out of bound at :44.9. Zags get 2 blocks, take the rebound and go to the line with :31.2. A miss. A timeout. Another miss. Duke with the ball. 2 missed shots and a foul against Duke on the rebound. Zags miss free throws. Duke misses from the field again and fouls. Zags on the line again at :10.6. Another missed free throw for the Zags. Still 89-87. Another free throw missed. Duke only needs two points for a tie and overtime, but loses the ball on a block at the rim and the game is over. Another selfish one-on-three play at the rim for a Duke big man. They should learn something by watching the film of this game. Zags need to practice free throws. All in all a snoozer until the last 3 minutes with very young superstars-to-be showing their callowness.

Gonzaga 89 - Duke 87.

Called block at the buzzer, but looked like a foul to me. Had that been the case, Duke could have tied it at the line and the game would have gone into overtime. Zags first string was in foul trouble already. I doubt they could have lasted through an overtime before they started fouling out. Duke didn't play that bad for a pre-season tournament and give credit where credit is due, Gonzaga is a very good basketball team.

Meanwhile, UVA iced Middle Tennessee in the late game last night. The Cavs play again this afternoon at 4 PM again Dayton.

Here's a look at the NCAA NET Rankings. Look who comes in at #15 in the nation!

3 Virginia
6 Duke
15 Radford
19 North Carolina
20 Notre Dame
33 Virginia Tech

UVA nearly let Maryland sneak up on them at the end last night, but still carried the day. UNC got bashed pretty bad by Michigan.

NET rankings are worth following since the Tournament Committee will rely on them for selection decisions.

Congrats tonight to the Radford Highlanders. They won at #17 Texas 62-59 to improve to 6-1 on the season.

According to ESPN this was the first win ever for Radford over a ranked opponent.

Wasn't Notre Dame ranked when they beat them?

Tech trounced VMI last night and UNC soundly beat UNCW but waited until the second half of the second half to do it. Duke was big over Hartford.  Best game of the night was Washington and Gonzaga. Washington nearly took one from the undefeated number 1 team in the nation.

Glad to see Perdue steal one away from Maryland last night. I've never liked Maryland since they left the ACC.
