Heat 2 is heating up.
Amazon MGM Studios division United Artists and film producer Scott Stuber are in final negotiations to land the sequel to the 1995 film Heat, ABC Audio has confirmed.
The new film will find Michael Mann directing from a screenplay he wrote. His script is based on the #1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, which he co-wrote with Meg Gardiner.
A brand-new crew of actors will make up the cast of Heat 2. No cast deals have been put in place at the time of writing. The film is set for a theatrical release.
Mann will produce the film, along with Stuber, Jerry Bruckheimer and Nick Nesbitt. It will also be executive produced by Eric Roth and Shane Salerno.
Heat starred Val Kilmer, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. It followed a conflict between a Los Angeles Police Department detective and a career thief. The film grossed over $187 million at the global box office.

Barbara Walters, star of the National Broadcasting Company’s ‘Today’ show, relaxes at the studio in New York. During the show, Barbara told her television audience that she has reached agreement in principle to work for the American Broadcasting Company. Among her duties would be to co-anchor the evening news program. With a reported salary of $1 million a year for five years, the agreement would make her highest paid on camera news person in the television industry. (ABC News Studios)
A documentary all about Barbara Walters makes its network TV debut on Thursday.
The film, called Tell Me Everything, originally premiered on Hulu and Disney+. It broadcasts on ABC on Thursday in honor of the late journalist’s birthday. Walters famously created the popular talk show The View, and its hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Sara Haines spoke to ABC Audio about what they admire about her.
“Just that she really gave zero [cares] about what people thought of her. All the things they said about her … you know, ‘You’re not this, you’re not good enough,’ and she’s like, ‘OK,’ and went on and did what she wanted to do the way she wanted it to do it and created a space for lots of women in broadcasting. That hadn’t existed,” Goldberg said. “She makes me happy.”
Haines said the documentary taught her things about Walters she didn’t know.
“I knew the highlight moments, the ones you saw on TV and the clips I’d seen. I did not know the underbelly of just how fierce she was. And realizing only Barbara Walters could have ever been Barbara Walters,” Haines said. “It took a very unique person to pay the price and reap the amazing benefits of a life led that big.”
Behar shared that she misses Walters to this day and credits her with the decades she has spent on The View.
“I thank Barbara for my 29, or 27, years on this show. I got to stay in my hometown of New York City with a job every day for all these years. So thank you, Barbara, wherever you are. She and I had a friendship, a real friendship. I would have dinner at her house,” Behar said. “I miss her to this day, I really do.”

Actress Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli have separated, a rep for Loughlin has confirmed to ABC’s Good Morning America.
Loughlin, who is known for her role as Aunt Becky on Full House, married Giannulli, a fashion designer, in November 1997.
They share two children: Olivia Jade Giannulli, 26, and Isabella Rose Giannulli, 27.
In a report from People, Loughlin’s rep Elizabeth Much said Loughlin and Giannulli are “living apart and taking a break from their marriage.”
“There are no legal proceedings at this time,” Much added.
News of Loughlin and Giannulli’s separation comes six years after their involvement in the 2019 college admissions bribery scandal.
They both pleaded guilty to their involvement in 2020, and that same year, Loughlin served two months in prison while Giannulli served five months.
At their sentencing in August 2020, Loughlin apologized and said she “made an awful decision. I allowed myself to be swayed from my moral compass.”
Giannulli also said, he deeply regrets “the harm that my actions caused my daughters, my wife and others” and that he took “full responsibility.”
Following the scandal, Loughlin opened up about what life has been like for her in a 2024 interview with First For Women. While she didn’t address the scandal, she talked about not letting negativity get to her.
“Every day we’re met with different obstacles, but it’s all in how you approach things,” she said. “For me, it’s just persevering and as an actress, I hear ‘no’ a lot, so I just have to be myself and persevere and try not to let in negativity.”
“My advice is to just keep moving forward,” she added. “Everyone has good times and bad times. That’s life. I think you just have to pick yourself up. Nobody said life was going to be a breeze. There’s beauty in life, but there’s also hardship in life.”
