Man shot by police after pointing a gun at them

On March 2nd, 2024, Henry County Deputies responded to a shooting incident that took place at 5269 Mitchell Road, Ridgeway, VA 24148.

Through the course of that investigation, it was determined that Timothy Brian Howell (43) went to 5269 Mitchell Road; shortly after he arrived, Howell produced a firearm and shot a male subject, then fled the scene.

As a result of that investigation, investigators from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office issued warrants on Timothy Brian Howell for malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon.

Investigators have been seeking Howell’s whereabouts since the March 2nd shooting. Investigators
with Henry County Sheriff’s Office began working with the United States Marshals Service to locate
Howell and arrest him on the outstanding felony warrants.

At approximately 12:45 pm today, Henry County Deputies, along with Officers from the Martinsville Police Department and the United States Marshals Service, located Timothy Howell at 805 Wright Rd. in Ridgeway. He was at a camper located in a wooded area a great distance off the highway.

Howell was armed with a handgun and subsequently pointed that gun toward law enforcement officers, and as a result, officers fired their weapons, striking Howell multiple times.

Those officers then immediately began performing lifesaving measures on Howell. Timothy Howell was airlifted to a Virginia hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Howell is in stable condition.

Investigators have discovered numerous firearms and suspected methamphetamine at the scene.
At the request of Sheriff Wayne Davis, The Virginia State of Police will conduct a complete and
thorough investigation of this incident.
