Abra Daniel Motley, Sr., 86, of Axton, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. He was born on March 28, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late Charlie Bennett Motley and Maggie Belle Motley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rachel Montgomery, Beulah “Louise” Triplett, and Alice Hopkins; and brothers Charlie Bennett Motley, Jr. , Bobby Motley, George Robert “G.R.” Motley, Willie Motley, and Edward Motley.

Abra retired after 35 years of dedicated service with the City of Martinsville, where he served faithfully as a Supervisor in the Public Works Department. He was a devoted member of Greenwood Baptist Church. Abra had a passion for operating heavy equipment, enjoyed gardening, and cherished the time he spent with his family, whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Leonora “Brooks” Motley; daughter, Karen Wilson (Michael); son Jason Patrick Motley (Sandy), Abra Daniel “Danny” Motley, Jr., Dena Jefferson; grandchildren, Michaela Wilson (Paige), Heather Hoffman (Clifford), Whitney Wilson, Hannah Motley, Ellie Motley, Hayden Fulcher, Dereck Motley, Brandon Motley, Jesse Jefferson, and Amber Borden; numerous great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastors Mark Redd and John Rigney officiating. Interment will follow at the Martin/Haley Family Cemetery, 309 Hairfield Lane Axton, Virginia 24054. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service.
