Obituaries

Aubie Carmen Burnette, 77, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Friday, November 21, 2025. He was born May 13, 1948, in West Virginia to the late Aubie Burnette and Helen Burnette.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, James Curtis “J.C.” Murdock.

Aubie was a hard working, simple man who always took care of his family. He loved to work, and he was a good provider, spending more than fourty-five years as a certified electrician after beginning his career in the coal mines. He taught his daughter Tammy how to work on cars and could fix just about anything. In his fee time, he enjoyed tinkering, woodworking, and doing things with his hands. He loved spending time with his wife, Mary Elizabeth, as they shared so much together. He also enjoyed watching T.V. playing his PS5, and flying flight simulators on the computer. In his earlier years, he spent time camping, fishing, and riding motercycles. Everything he did showed how much he truly loved his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-two years, Mary Elizabeth; his daughter, Tammy Cunningham (Tony); son, John V. Burnette; grandchildren, Olivia Martinez, Lily Cunningham; great grandson, Liam John Curtis Murdock; numerous extended family and friends.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel. Burial will be private. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
