Barbara Jane Johnson (nee’ Royal), 86, of Laurel Park Ave., Martinsville was born June 6, 1939, in Martinsville, VA to the late Estelle Royal.

She is survived by daughters Marquerite Johnson Swan and her husband Eric and Carla Johnson; son, John Johnson and his wife Michaela; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; aunt, Nannie Mller; nieces, Tracy Hine and Sabrina Delaware; Cousin, Jessi Allen; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her mother, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Carl Henry Johnson.

Barbara was loved and respected by all who knew her for her selfless commitment to family, friends, and her community. A devout Christian, Barbara was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church, East Martinsville, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Willing Worker’s Committee until her health declined.

A visitation service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at First Baptist Church East Martinsville, 1043 E. Church St., Martinsville with Pastor Charles Whitfield, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Dr., Martinsville.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. All other times, the family will begin receiving friends Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 2p.m. until 7 p.m. daily at the residence, 668 Laurel Park Ave., Martinsville until the day of the service.
