Billy Carroll McGraw, 89, entered his eternal rest Saturday, January 17, 2026, at his home in Bassett, Virginia. He was born on May 18, 1936, in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, to the late Gabe Roscoe McCraw and Shirley Holden McCraw.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife of 38 years, Ruth S. Hopkins McGraw; and his sister, Betty McCraw Brown.

Billy was of the Christian faith and a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He graduated from Greensboro High School, Class of 1955, and worked many years as a supervisor for a machine shop. He also built wood stoves with his son, John. He made his health a priority and genuinely enjoyed being outdoors in the sun. Whether relaxing at the beach, caring for his flowers, or growing vegetables in his garden, Billy loved being in nature. He was a sports fan who loved watching all kinds of sports-NASCAR, basketball, and football-particularly enjoying watching March Madness.

Left to cherish his memory are his stepdaughter, Lisa Kendrick; son, John McCraw (Lisa); stepson, Jeffery Hopkins (Linda); sister, Diane McCraw Faulkenberry; grandchildren, Lucas McCraw (Jennifer), Joshua McCraw, Cody McCraw, Kellie Parker (Garrett); step-granddaughter, Stephanie Kendrick; great-grandchildren, Leo McCraw, Henry Parker, Wrenn Parker; step-great-grandchildren, Journey Kendrick, Destiny Walker, and Zyrah Hunt; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Although services will be private, the family wishes to extend their gratitude for the love and support that has been shown during their time of grief.
