Billy Ray McBride, Jr., age 55, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 27, 1970, in Fort Riley Army Base in Ogden, Kansas, to Billy R. McBride, Sr., and the late Shirley Jean Tripplett.

Billy was proud of his country and desired to serve in the United States Army, due to health issues he was not able to complete basic training, however he was honored for serving his nation. He was of the Baptist faith. He was most recently employed as a correctional officer at Green Rock Correctional Center.

Billy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially cherished moments playing basketball and fishing with his father, creating memories that will be forever treasured.

In addition to his father, Billy R. McBride, Sr., he is survived by his stepmother, Donna McBride; his daughter, Natalie Gongloff (Mark); his three grandchildren, Ally Gongloff, Thomas Gongloff, and Ella Gongloff; his sister, Charlotte Sherrill (Philip); his half-brother, R. L. Baker (Sarah); his four nieces & nephews, Philip Sherrill, Joseph Sherrill, Justice Baker, and Emily Baker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Billy was a man known for his great sense of humor and the joy he brought to those around him. A devoted sports fanatic and dedicated gym enthusiast, he approached life with determination, discipline, and heart. His faith was an important part of who he was and guided him throughout his life. Billy’s strength, perseverance, and ability to make others laugh will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Doug Ramsey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
