Obituaries

Bishop Waverly Cousin, Jr., 83, of Cascade, Virginia, transitioned to his heavenly home Friday, November 21, 2025. He was born June 29, 1942, to the late Waverly Cousin, Sr., and Carrie Lucille Adams Cousin.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Waverly Cousin, III, Bunky Blankenship; sisters, Elise Eggleton Briddell, Priscilla Angerine Cousin Robertson, Carrie Lee Cousin Edge Johnson; brothers, Bishop Archie C. Eggleton and Clarence Eggleton.

Bishop Waverly Cousin, Jr., founded Alpha Faith Temple Church on March 5, 1995, and was dearly beloved by his church and community. He had a profound love for the Lord and for every member of his church family. He was a class A contractor, and his hobby was working, any time and any place. In addition, he worked for DuPont for 30 years and was also Chairman of the Board of the Brosville Community Fire Department for 35 years. His family and his church family were always his priority. He cherished spending time with them, creating new memories for himself as well as for those he held dear.

Left to cherish his memory, along with his beloved wife, Barbara McGuire Cousin, are his daughters, Cheryl Cousin Daniels, DeShannon Smith (Anthony); sister, Janice Eggleton Davis; brother, Bishop Sterling L. Eggleton, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews; special care givers, Steve Wilson, Gary Carter, Marvin Adams; all the staff at Amedisys Hospice and numerous extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held November 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Shiloh Way of the Cross Church, 938 Brookdale St, Martinsville, VA 24112. Interment will be held at Danville Memorial Garden. A visitation will be held one half hour prior to service. Home visitation from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM daily.
