Obituary For Clyde Russell Dalton

Clyde Russell Dalton, 82, of Axton, Virginia, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 20, 2026. He was born September 22, 1943, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Harry Dalton and Edith Bell Roark Dalton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean Bull; and brothers, Harold Cecil Dalton and James “Ray” Dalton.

Clyde proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, earning a medal of good conduct. The family recalls his story of how upon leaving the military, he hitchhiked all the way from California to Virginia. His strong work ethic was evident throughout his life, particularly as the owner and operator of a well-known and well-loved convenience store for 17 years, the Do Drop In. Clyde was a member of the Martinsville Elks for over 40 years. His legacy of strength and integrity will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 56 years, Alice Dalton; son, Russell David Dalton (Angela); sisters, Ruth Gaye Dalton Kiley of Danville, Virginia, and Bobbie Leah Dalton of Axton, Virginia; grandchildren, Savannah Lynn Sparks (Tyler), Holland Brooke Dalton, Denver Russell Dalton; and great-grandchildren, Bowen Ryder Sparks and Selah Grace Sparks.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Danville Memorial Gardens, 510 Church Avenue Danville, Virginia, officiated by Pastors JB Baldridge and Jeff Bray.

Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
