Obituary For Curtis Franklin Barbour

Curtis Franklin Barbour, 78, of Bassett, Virginia, was ushered into heaven on Resurrection Sunday, April 5, 2026. He was born August 10, 1947, in Franklin County, Virginia, to the late Samuel Preston Barbour and Annie Myrtle Austin Barbour.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Etholene Virginia Johnson, Hazelene T. Hazelwood (Jr.); and brothers, Ester Ballard “Jigger” Barbour (Joe), James Maynard Barbour (Ellen), Delis Barbour (Margie), and Lenwood Preston Barbour.

Curtis was of the Christian faith and lived his life as a testament to the grace he had received from the Lord. His home reflected his faith; each day began with a cup of coffee and Word of God, and by 7:00 in the morning his singing filled the air. No matter what he was doing, he had a song on his lips; especially loving to sing with his family. Although he found great joy in attending church, Curtis found every moment to be an opportunity for worship.

As a jack of all trades, he was never afraid of hard work; he enjoyed it when helping friends and family. In his leisure time, Curtis loved both watching and playing sports, maintaining his pristine yard, and listening to bluegrass music. His family was always his priority, and he will be remembered as a faithful husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Curtis’ heavenly promotion has left those who knew him with heavy hearts but also filled with profound gratitude for his life and legacy, knowing that the seeds of faith he planted will grow and flourish for generations to come.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Martha Ann Fain Barbour; daughter, Angela Faith Barbour Forrest (Jonathan); sons, Curtis Darin Barbour (Jody Anne), Kevin Franklin Barbour (Donna Gail); brother, Cletis Richard Barbour (Linda); brother-in-law, Ralph Johnson; grandchildren, Taylor Alexis Huxley (Matthew), Addison Blair Barbour, Zachary Darin Barbour, Noah Dylan Barbour, Kailey Ann Conrad, Camden Zayne Conrad, Amity Helton, Ashton Forrest; and two great-grandchildren, Blaine James McNeil and one yet to be born.

A funeral service will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel with Pastor Sammy Caldwell and Pastor Greg Hodges officiating. Interment will follow at Henry Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
