Obituaries

Doris Adams Hudson, 88, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Franklin Health & Rehab in Rocky Mount, Virginia. She was born on May 1, 1937, to the late Lemly J. Adams and Dora Martin Adams. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, William “W.D.” Hudson; her son-in-law, Wayne Handy; and several siblings, including John Adams, Paul Adams, Tim Adams, Dale Adams, Carl Adams, and Claude Adams, as well as her sisters, Sue Adams and Joan Adams.

Doris was a lifelong resident of the Bassett community and a proud graduate of Old John D. Bassett High School. She dedicated many years of her life to working with Henry County Public Schools in the Stanleytown cafeteria, serving others with care and commitment. She was a member of the Patrick Henry Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, word searches, and crocheting.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Michael W. Hudson (Tina), Tommy D. Hudson, Connie H. Bray (Jimmy), and Kathy H. Handy; five cherished grandchildren, Zachary Hudson (Erin), John Allen Trent, Michelle Hudson, Tyler Bray and Emily Bray; her brothers, Noel Adams (Erma) and Daniel Adams (Carol); and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Doris will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her gentle spirit, and the legacy of love she leaves behind.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
