Obituaries

Dorothy Bill Hairston, the daughter of the late Jessie Ben Hairston, Sr. and Clara Ann Hairston, was born in Henry County on June 7, 1938. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 13, 2026, at Sovah Hospital at Danville, Virginia. She was never married and had no children.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by several brothers, Curtis J. Hairston, Wilford Lee Hairston, Jessie B. Hairston, Jr.; several sisters, Lucy Mae Barr, and Bishop Clara G. Martin.

Dorothy worked for Equitable Bag Company for thirty years in Queens, New York City. Dorothy loved God and attended Miracles in Motion under the direction of Rev. Reginald Goode until she became disabled.

She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Gloria Joan Hairston Finney (Robert); nieces and nephews, Edith Grevious, Wanda Martin, Cheryl Poe, Bishop Moses Barr (Shawan), Jeffrey Hairston (Pam), Claressa Chambers, Marvin Martin (Carol), Derick Martin (Kim), Belma Moyer, Nicholas Moyer, Phyllis Pounds, Karimah Niblett (John), Deborah Hairston, Janet Hairston, Wilford Hairston, Jr., Ronnie Hairston (Brenda), Robert Ray Hairston, Dave Hairston (Henrietta), Charles Anthony Grevious, and Cameron Grevious; special nieces, Jenes Turner and April Martin; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Dr. Lewis Waller officiating and Bishop Moses Barr, eulogist. Interment will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A floating visitation will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, from 2:00-6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel. Visitation will be held other times at the home of her sister at 105 Elmwood Circle Apt A, Martinsville, Virginia.
