Obituary For Douglas D. DeVoe Sr.
Mr. Douglas D. DeVoe, Sr. of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was born in Highland Park, Michigan, grew up in the Greater Detroit area, and graduated from Center Line High School in 1958 and from Wayland Baptist University in 1978. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Alma “Blue” DeVoe; his parents, Ruth and Dale DeVoe; and his brother, David DeVoe (Cindi).
Mr. DeVoe enlisted in the Air Force in 1960 and had a long, distinguished career, retiring from active duty with 24 years of service. Following his military career, he worked in Civil Service for the Army and the Air Force. He last served as Health Manpower Resource Manager and Deputy Chief for the Medical Manpower Division, Directorate of Medical Programs and Resources, Office of the Surgeon General, HQ USAF Surgeon General’s Office, Bolling AFB, until his retirement in June 2001.
Mr. DeVoe enjoyed volksmarching, coin and stamp collecting, and was very active in both veteran and civilian organizations in the Henry County/Martinsville community. He was a member of the Henry County/Martinsville Veterans Honor Guard and a life member of several military organizations, including the American Legion Pannill Post No. 42 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He also served as a Deacon at Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church in Stoneville, North Carolina.
He is survived by his children, Deborah DeVoe Foley (Grant) and Douglas DeVoe, Jr. (Trini); his grandson, Jordan Miller; his sister-in-law, Patsy Cox; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Cass Horton officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 711 Church Street, Ridgeway, Virginia 24148. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in loving memory of Douglas D. DeVoe, Sr. to the American Legion Pannill Post No. 42 in care of Wright Funeral Service, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, Virginia 24112.
