Obituaries

Eleanor “Ruth” Sutphin Russ, 77, of Collinsville, Virginia, transitioned to her heavenly home Wednesday, January 28, 2026. She was born April 16, 1948, in Floyd County, Virginia to the late James Lee Sutphin and Nellene Iris Harmon Sutphin Crum.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Arnold; brothers, William Sutphin and Marvin Sutphin.

Ruth was a Christian. For the majority of her career, Ruth worked as a seamstress. Later in life, she earned her GED and went on to attend college to obtain her dietary management certification. She enjoyed cooking and would always make sumptuous meals for her family and friends. In her spare time, Ruth loved to work puzzles, crochet, and quilting. Although her earthly presence is no longer here, her legacy of love and faith will always be remembered.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Harlin Russ; daughters, Lisa Turner, April Hazelwood (Kalen); son, Chuck Nichols; sisters, Rebecca Mott, Loretta Lewis, Cathy Richardson, Rosetta Farris; brother, James Sutphin; grandchildren, Chance Nichols, Phoenix Eanes, Adriana Turner, Brandon Turner, Brady Hazelwood; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel. The Russ family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation for all expressions of kindness and comfort rendered to our family during our time of grief.
