Obituaries

Everett “Eddie” Kelly Haley, 74, of Axton, Virginia, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026. He was born April 22, 1951, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late Marvin Bernard Haley and Jannie Elizabeth Stephenson Rakes.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Larry Haley and Marty Haley.

Eddie was of the Christian faith and attended Pleasant Valley Church of the Living God in Axton, Virginia. He surrendered his life to the Lord later in life and had a deep love for the Lord. He was dedicated to his job as a truck driver, driving locally most of his career. During his leisure time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working in the yard, playing with his dogs and hanging out with his best friend, Sam. Although he was known as a strong, tough individual, Eddie carried a deep, tender love for his friends and family. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend and will leave a void on this side of eternity in the hearts of all who knew him.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory are his loving wife of nearly 44 years, Susan Haley; daughters, Laura Lynn Haley, Elizabeth Haley; sons, Kelly Lee Haley, Jamie Wayne Fretwell; sisters, Geraldine Conner, Patsy Joyce, Sue Risaliti; grandchildren, Zachary Haley, Benji Haley, Jasmine Haley, Niceia Fretwell, Raina Haley; stepmother who raised Eddie, Martha Drewery Haley; and best friend, Sam Hall.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Dhruv Vyas and the staff of Eden Internal Medicine for caring for Eddie for many years.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Michael Leath and Bishop Buford Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Haley Overton Cemetery located at 983 Hobson Road, Axton, Virginia (next to Pleasant Valley Church of the Living God). Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
