Obituaries

Fannie Rachael Cox Shrader, 82, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026. She was born September 21, 1943, in Ridgeway, Virginia to the late Virginia Marie Moore Cox and Grady Sanders Cox.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Shrader Gauldin; sisters, Mable Cox Lamkin, Vergie Marie Cox; brothers, Joe Cox, Tony William Cox, Harvey Lee Cox, Charles Cox, James Cox; and grandson, Lucas Nathaniel Gauldin.

Fannie was a godly woman and faithful member of Wayside Baptist Church. She dedicated forty years of service to the Henry County Court System, working as a court reporter for judges and for Roscoe Reynolds. Fannie was known as a stern lady, yet she had a sense of humor that those close to her cherished. She was a hard worker and above all, a loving and caring mother who deeply loved her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Howell Franklin Shrader, Sr.; daughter, Rebecca S. Goodin (Jerry); son, Howell Franklin Shrader, Jr. (Janet); seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wayside Baptist Church with Pastor Craig Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at Cox Family Cemetery, 2265 Old Mill Road, Ridgeway, Virginia 24148. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
