Obituary For George Andrew Grogan
George Andrew Grogan, 86, of Meadows of Dan, VA passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Mountain Valley-Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born on February 4, 1940, in Martinsville, VA to the late John Roy Grogan and Sophie Elizabeth Schilbe Grogan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Roy Grogan, Jr.; his sister, Esther Ann Grogan Eller; and beloved dogs, Jack and Shanny.
Mr. Grogan was a generous and giving man who loved volunteering and helping others. He dedicated his time to events like Meadows of Dan Pancake Days and often enjoyed gathering with fellow veterans. George loved to garden, taking pride in growing both vegetables and flowers. He stayed very active, regularly attending weekly exercise classes. A devoted member of Mayberry Presbyterian Church and a proud Army veteran, he spent many years working as a United States Postal Service delivery driver before later serving as a postmaster. He especially enjoyed visiting the Poor Farmers Market, where he valued both the sense of community and the friendships he made there. Above all, he cherished his beloved family, friends, and dogs.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Meadows of Dan community for always being there for George and supporting him. The community became like family to him and was there for him in ways that meant so much.
He is survived by his nephew, Trip Eller (Tamara); niece, Elizabeth Secrest (Chad); great nieces and nephews, Lilly Secrest, Atticus Secrest, Cassie Peele (Jasper Sterling), and Emily Peele. George is also survived by his faithful dog, Knucklehead.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Norris Funeral Services, Stuart Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon with Pastor Jeff Garrison officiating at Norris Funeral Services, Stuart Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County, 132 Joseph Martin Hwy., Martinsville, VA 24112 or to the Meadows of Dan Community Association, 2215 Shelor Rd., SW, Meadows of Dan, VA 24120.
